The CúChullain (koo-hull-in) Pipe Band is an organization dedicated to the preservation and proliferation of traditional Celtic music. Formed in 1977 by Michael J. Smith, CúChullain has the distinction of being the first pipe band ever established in Morris County, NJ.
The band is family oriented and takes pride in developing the talents of new pipers and drummers through The CúChullain School of Piping and Drumming, which provides free instruction to aspiring pipers and drummers year round.
For over forty years, countless pipers and drummers learned their craft through the band. Several have gone on to become award winning musicians. The band, similarly, has gained recognition in competitions, parades, and civic events held across the country.
After one particularly successful competition season, U.S. Congressman Dean Gallo honored the band by naming it to the New Jersey Pride Honor Roll in the Congressional Record of the 102nd Congress. This award was presented to the band at the first annual Morristown St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 16, 1991. CúChullain has led or participated in the parade ever since.
